Summer at its finest

For a weekend that appeared to have only one birthday party on the agenda it turned out to be action packed.

Jackie surprised o on Friday and picked her up abt 9am to go pick blueberries. Then that turned into lunch and a play date with drew. Then after work we took the girls for snow cones. I thought that was the end of our night but as we were finishing our pb&j sandwiches abt 7 the nappers text and asked us all over for s'mores. Well we didn't have plans so off we went! We got home in the middle of the monsoon and I had o in bed by 10 and I just KNEW she was going to sleep late for me....

And she was up at 7 am on Saturday! So we got dressed and headed to the farmers market and then to the store for birthday party gifts and then to Hudson's bday party. The party was so much fun. For the kids and the adults! :)

Water slides aren't just for kids!

So after sliding for about 3 hours we watched a movie and then headed to Jenny's for a miss Louisiana party. The Gatlins and McIntyre's came and we had a great time "critiquing" the contestants. We grilled and enjoyed the company. At 10:30 we were heading home and o talked uncle john into allowing her to spend the night and I got a text right at 11 that she had finally fallen asleep on the couch. So I just knew she'd sleep late....

And jenny texted abt 8:45; she was up. Well that's later than usual... So we got ready and met up with the girls and headed to farmerville. Bryleigh Gracie's gran gran so very graciously had our little group over for swimming and pizza! They have a beautiful home on the lake and I think we broke their new pool in pretty good! The wilkersons, nappers, Cramer's, williams, williefords and us. Us mamas and especially the kids had a blast! We swam from 11:30 until sometime after 3 only stopping for a pizza break. It was a nearly perfect day if you take away the "incident" in the deep end. By the time I got to her brittany napper had jumped in and beat me to her. Thank you so much BN! I never thought she'd jump off the float. I just knew she was too scared. WRONG! But from all accounts she got her head above water and dog paddled until she was safe so maybe those swimming lessons did pay off this year! And no major drama from it bc she walked right back down to the shallow end and got back in! She's nothing if not resilient!

And then when Matt and Shawn got home from their golf tourney we met the Cramer's at log cabin for dinner. And it's now 9:24 and o is still singing to herself in bed. I hear a child that doesn't like to sleep is a child with great intelligence. Anyone know if that's true?!?! :)

This was a pretty perfect summer weekend. No plans that turn into a weekend full of fun and friends. Reminds me so much of growing up. This is what summer is all about!

Vacation 2013 - Orange Beach

We had a GREAT time. For real. She was nearly perfect! Of course we had a daily melt down over teeth brushing but that's not new! Since she's given up the nap I secretly hoped she'd get it back for this trip. No such luck. By 1pm every day she was DONE but would NOT nap. Would only lay on the couch and watch cartoons. Which is fine. She slept soundly every night even though we had to call it a night pretty early every night. We were at the condo and she was out by 9 every night. One night it was as early as 8....

We left Thursday morning and arrived about 4. Threw on her suit and down to the beach we went. And she ran straight for the water and never looked back. We ended the day with dinner at the steamer in orange beach.

Friday started with the beach, then on to Perdido to meet up with the williams clan for massages for the mamas and swimming for the kiddos. at one point matt had 4 girls all over him in the pool. wish i could have seen that but i was busy drooling on the floor during my massage! LOL! and then dinner at the hang out. Terrible food but great entertainment for a child that was begging for bed!

Saturday was more beach followed by rest time and dinner at Cobalt. After dinner we hit up the go cart track. O said she enjoyed it but didn't want to do it again bc it was too loud and made her hands hurt (vibrating...)! Then we attempted some beach pics. And then to end the night we went crabbing. O LOVED that and was bummed we didn't see anything!

Sunday morning was spent at the pool and then lunch at Lulu's. it rained that afternoon but we were able to get about an hour on the beach late before the storm really came in. We ended with dinner at tacky jacks. Another kid friendly choice...

Monday was the beach. I was going to get a tan if I had to give o benedryl and put her under an umbrella. I kid. Kind of. :) so we beached it until she and Matt just couldn't take it anymore and then they left me down there to soak it up. And we ended the night with dinner at the steamer in gulf shores (same as first night but diff location, it's our very fav!) then on to the wharf for a Ferris wheel ride! They have a little carnival area set up but no one was working and none of the rides were on. Big bummer. But the Ferris wheel was a hit!!

We said good bye this morning and stopped on our way out of town for o's first pet. Meet Hermie. She's in love with this thing. So is Matt. He researched it and is now convinced we need another so Hermie doesn't get lonely and die. Thanks brittany williams for agreeing to bring us another on y'all's way back!!

It really was so much fun. I'm so very glad we took her. She says Lulu's was her fav restaurant and cobalt was a close second bc I bought her a pink octopus. She loves the beach and ocean and was sad to leave. We had that in common! Until next year...

First swim of the season

I'm so happy tech has their nice new pool. It's awesome! We met the wilkerson's there yesterday and ended up spending nearly 4 hours out there!

Unfortunately my attempt to keep o from burning failed. I swear I reapplied. So it's either the fact that the spray still blows or I used 30 instead of 50. Either way lesson learned. The 50 lotion will be making its reappearance at our house this week.

O was successfully worn out after swimming and we tried to keep her awake but we looked away for a few minutes and when we turned our heads this is what we had. At 5pm! So we woke her at 6 and said a prayer that it wouldn't affect night time sleep and went about our day.

Which consisted of ice cream for dinner. Bc if you can't cheat a few times in the summer then when can you cheat?!? And we'd had lunch at almost 3 so our day was totally thrown off.

And I'm happy to report that she was in bed asleep by 9ish and slept until 7:30!! Whoohoo!!

Happy birthday Matt!!

He turned 34 Wednesday. O's sitter took her shopping for the perfect gift and she wrapped it all by herself. And then she took his pic with his gift....walkie talkies!

As evidenced by the scrubs he had to work that night so o and I just ran over and had dinner with him.

And she insisted on taking our pic. Forget the fact that we're one big shadow.

We celebrated some more last night with dinner with friends. And ended with drinks. Old school style.

I had clearly had a LONG day. Whew.

So turning 34 wasn't so bad. Happy birthday Matt from your two favorite people. We're so lucky you are in our lives!
