last few days...

we've actually been pretty busy these past 2 or 3 days. yesterday mom and i took olivia on her first shopping trip! we went to the children's shoppe. they were having a pretty good sale and i had a gift card that was begging to be used (thanks robin and holly!) olivia bought a seersucker bubble outfit, a changing pad for her diaper bag, an "O" paci clip and some closet organizers! after that we went and visited aunt jackie's office. i worked there in college and had to show off my daughter to my former bosses! then, we picked up aunt jenny and went out to lincoln parish park for a photo shoot. enjoy the photos below!

the past two nights have been pretty rough. our precious angel has found her lungs and wants to use them at night - between the hours of 2 and 5 am! i'm not gonna lie. it's not fun. it's so not fun that rett called into work today. he just couldn't get out of bed after two nights of this! so, we've spent a lovely day at home with lots of visitors! sarah, rachel, merideth, aunt jenny and emery all came by at some point or another. i do love having visitors! being cooped up and not able to drive gets pretty old sometimes!

i'm sure we've done more but i can't remember...

first few days at home

here we are. at home. with a baby girl named olivia! things have been going well. she sleeps pretty much all day and night. we have to wake her to eat and change her diaper. but, hey, i'm not complaining! i know that once this jaundice thing leaves her system then we're in for it! rett and i trade up the night feedings and diaper changes. my mom has been here, staying at jackie's at night and coming over here during the day. rett goes back to work on tuesday so things will begin to get a little more crazy around here i'm sure! here are some pics of the past few days!

i left off olivia's stats!

just remembered i didn't share olivia's birth stats!

6 lbs 5 oz
19 inches long
long, & skinny!

monday at discharge she was down to 6 lbs even

today at the doc she was back up at birth weight! geez, what is this kid eating?

welcome baby olivia!

well... as you can tell from the title of this post - rett and i are now parents! first i'll share the story and then some pics...

last wednesday (may 13) i went for my 38 week appt. i begged my doc to induce me and he wouldn't. so, i left there and even sent an email to friends and family stating that we would not be having a baby any time soon.

thursday night was rett's first softball game (he plays on our church team, the trinity troopers). i decided to go b/c i thought it might be the only game i get to see him play in - assuming miss olivia was to arrive on time. the game was a massacre. trinity lost 15 - 0. but the good news from this night - my water broke! yes, that's correct, my water broke at the game. hey, it could have been worse, i could have been at wal-mart! i was on the phone with a friend and i felt this "gush". i thought to myself that it felt weird but didn't really think my water had broken b/c i wasn't having contractions. i get off the phone and continue to feel this strange sensation, not like i'm peeing on myself but definately some liquid. then i knew. i just knew. the game by now is over and i pick up my purse and tell some of the other wives around that my water had broken and to tell my husband to meet me at the hospital (we had both cars at the game). they looked at me in horror and advised that maybe rett should drive me. ok, as long as we get there! lovely miranda gashel had the pleasure of running to the dugout to tell rett "it was time!" off we go to the hospital. long story short - we check into the ER; get wheeled up to the OB floor; get a room and start making phone calls. by the time i'm in a gown and in bed it's 9PM. about 1AM i was feeling some pain. got a shot of some pain meds. about 3:30 i wanted my epidural. finally got it around 4:30AM. ahh, good again! they started the drip and anitbiotics (b/c once your water breaks you are more suseptable to infection) at 6AM. surely we'd have a baby any time now.... not so lucky. at 4:30PM my doc tells me that we'll need to make a decision in about an hour. well, 5:30 rolls around and what do you know - i'm finally 10 cm! we start pushing. push for an hour. lo and behold, little baby's head is turned funny and she's not coming down any further. decision is made to have a c-section. they roll me down to the OR about 7PM and at 7:28 Olivia Jane Hamby is born! she's just beautiful! the entire ordeal took about 22 hours or so but was so worth it. i'm not gonna lie - the section was tough. she was lodged pretty far down in my pelvis and my doc had to get about elbow deep to get her out. i'm still sore and swollen. over 2 days they must have pumped about 12 bags of fluid in me. i'm not sure i'll ever get it all off! i can't wait for everyone to meet olivia jane hamby!
one proud daddy!
meeting my daughter for the first time!isn't she precious - mohawk and all!wecome home!
one more!

we were discharged from the hospital yesterday (monday) morning and had our first pediatrician appt today in monroe. we're using dr. khanfar at progressive pediatrics in monroe. if you're looking for a doc i highly suggest him. he's so great - kind, understaning, and he didn't balk at any of my dumb questions! rett and i got up early, got ourselves bathed and dressed and then got olivia bathed and dressed. it was a fun family outing to monroe! i have pics but haven't downloaded them yet!

can't wait to see what the future holds for our new family!!!

good news at my doc appt today!

got home from my doc appt about 30 min ago and just had to share the good news.....

i'm 1 cm and 50% effaced!

now, i'm fully aware that we could be at this point for a while but i'm hoping for the best. jenny is on her way back from the beach with a bunch of her nurse friends and one is an ob nurse. she said it could be sooner rather than later b/c most 1st timers are 0 and 0 right up until 40 weeks. that gives me hope!

i'm going to try and get everything done this weekend just in case!

i'll leave you with a few pics of mine and rett's date night this past monday. due to the overall soreness i'm experiencing all day, every day; we chose to stay at home and play guitar hero. we haven't played in a while so i was a little rusty. but, i did win a few tunes - rett won most. oh well...

had i paid more attention to the song and not to the camera i may have won more games!rett takes guitar hero seriously!

i had another cute pic of my cute baby daddy but i accidentally deleted it so you'll have to do without.

busy weekend!

jackie and i had a garage sale this weekend in the 'boro with my dad. we did really well, making over $600!
this is the loot we were trying to get rid of

jackie bright and early in the morning

only dad would check his email at a garage sale
after the sale jackie and i took a trip down memory lane. we first went to our old junior high (a couple of kids burned it down a few weeks ago.) the sixth grade building was unlocked so we took a gander inside...

this is the 6th grade hall - it's funny, as soon as we walked in we remembered where our teacher's rooms were.
and this is the janitor's door - next to mrs. dorsey's science room! this was the only remnant of wjhs we found - since it's now the alternative school. :(
and then on to pearly's snoball stand. we couldn't believe it was closed but at least we got a pic!
then sat night rett and i worked on olivia's room. we got her bed completely ready!

and last but not least... jackie wanted a shout out on her dress she made olivia. she took a sewing class a few weeks ago and they learned how to make pillowcase dresses! here's olivia's first homemade dress from aunt jackie!

that's all for now. rett and i have a date with guitar hero at 9!
