Hillary got married!

Again. It's no secret I love a wedding. Hillary and josh tied the knot a few weeks ago in a family only, private ceremony. Their reception was this past weekend in el dorado. Dlove was my date bc the boy had to work. And what a fab date she was! The food was awesome and the company even better. Wishing josh and hill a lifetime of happiness.

And bc I've had two photoless posts here's a recent pic of o. She's just a hoot these days; wish I could write every bit of it down.

We are loving some dress up. Still. :)

Sunday funnies

A couple of funny things happened at church today. 1-the lady sitting 2 down from me slept through most of the service. And it was the annual jazz service! Hard to sleep through that! 2-I was born and raised a Methodist and something happened today I've never heard of. Apparently during lent you extinguish the candles one by one that u lit during advent. Is this something new by the Methodist church? I asked my friend sitting next to me who was also born and raised Methodist and she'd never seen it/heard of it either. So, have I just never paid attention or is this just not a commonly practiced tradition? 3-the annual jazz service is one of my favs! Trinity hires a jazz ensemble and we always sing great old hymns and it's a great time. At the benediction bro Jerry proclaimed that it's hard to stand still during that kind of music even for white folks! Everyone got a chuckle out of that! Even though I prefer the traditional service that doesn't mean we can't laugh and also have fun occasionally! :)

date your man

my friend amanda at the daily sweatpants is having a link-up party and I do just love those!  it’s all about your most recent date night.  this time last year I would have run like the wind from this event.  now I really like it!  Smile  date nights are so fun.  and it doesn’t have to be anything elaborate.  when I told the boy that I might document in photos our night so I could blog it and link up I think he threw up a little in his mouth.  he’s very lucky that I got so caught up in talking and eating that I totally forgot to ask the waiter to take our picture.

so, the date.  we went to raw.  it is probably my favorite place in town to eat.  I had the squid salad, rainbow and spicy tuna.  he had the miso soup and a california roll.  clearly we now know who the eater is in this dynamic duo.  he couldn’t finish his so yours truly finished it for him.  after all, a clean plate is a happy plate.  in my defense I had warned him that I was super hungry and we were eating after my normally scheduled dinner time so that added to my hunger.  when it was all said and done I was so full it hurt.  but it was so good!

I’d given him a reprieve on going to see the vow.  I really want to see it but I knew we couldn’t make the 7:25 and I would most def fall asleep during the 9:50 showing so we just went back to my house and caught up on american idol.  my fav, phil phillips, made it to the top 24!  then we called it a night.

there you have it.  a photoless, low key date night.  minus the photoless part it was spot on.

Fun Friday,lazy Saturday and sunday

Friday after work a group of us headed to The Warehouse for emery's baby sprinkle.

Then some of us from that group met some more people at the Marc Broussard concert back in Ruston. I thought I'd never heard of him but did know one song. I really liked him. A friend described him as white boy funk. I thought it was less funk and more soul. But either way it was pretty dang good!

Saturday was spent being lazy! It rained all day long so we watched tv and played and napped. It was great! We went to church this morning and I'm so glad we did. Brian actually preached in the service I attend and I just love listening to him. I've often considered switching to the contemporary service but I find it really hard to give up the apostles creed, the gloria patri after that, the doxology after the offering and the children's service! I'm a creature of habit and I love knowing when to stand, sit, sing, recite, listen. Maybe one day I'll branch out!

O now asks to take pictures by the bushes so I happily oblige. ;)

She starts a new class at school tmrw so please join me in praying that it's a smooth transition!

life as a single mom

I linked up to kelly’s korner today so I thought I better give a glimpse into my life.  I’ve been a single mom since olivia was 6 months old (she’ll be 3 this May.)  it’s not how I EVER envisioned my life.  but it is what it is.  I’ve accepted it and we are so much better off now than we were when I was married.  He wasn’t a bad person and he’s a great, involved father.  without going into too much detail (you can read more HERE) let’s just say we’re happier apart than we were married.

I work fulltime and have olivia every sunday night through wed morning and every other weekend.  we basically have a 50/50 split.  her father is a CPA so I do have her some extra time during tax season.  we don’t lead a glamorous life but we have fun!  I do feel like I miss out on a lot of her life b/c I only have her about 50% of the time but I’ve just had to come to grips with it.  Getting divorced will do that to you.  you grieve for a while but you have that “a ha” moment when you wake up one morning and tell yourself to put on your big girl panties and deal with it.  this is your life and you have to make the best of it.  if you don’t, no one else will do it for you.

we are attempting to co-parent in separate households.  and so far it’s working.  we communicate at least every other day about issues regarding olivia.  from the mundane to the more serious.  we both want to be as involved as possible in her life so this is our solution.  we take her places together periodically (like 2-3 times a year, don’t think it’s like every month or anything like that!)  we help each other out when they need it (like tax season and if something comes up out of the ordinary the other will go pick her up from daycare, etc.)  from all accounts this is the best way to handle a terrible situation.  olivia never sees us argue and we work out issues regarding her on our own.  I realize that this makes him a bigger part of my life than I’d ideally want him to be but he is her father so I deal with it.  the professionals tell me this is the way to go.  I hope they are right!

I wouldn’t have made it to today without my family and friends.  and let me tell you…you find out who your real friends are when tragedy strikes.  funny how it always works out like that.  I’ve spent the last 2 years weeding out the bad in my life and focusing on the good.  and I’m in a MUCH better spot than I used to be!  my parents help so much with olivia.  I’d go broke paying for babysitters if it weren’t for them!

when it’s all said and done I can’t see my life any other way right now.  God has a plan for us all and this is part of it.  I don’t have to understand why right now.  He will reveal that in due time.  If you’re coming over from kelly’s site and are new to this whole single mom thing just know that you are not alone!  I worry everyday that I’m seriously messing up my child’s life/well being.  but then I remind myself that as long as I’m doing my best then it will all work out in the end.

Valentines Day 2012

Cupid came to see both me and O this year! He left o this lifesize Minnie mouse. She loves her! She was also super pumped to wear her valentine shirt and for her school party/valentines for her friends!

She said, "Minnie is big like me!!"

A friend passed along the idea for o's class valentines. It was a brilliant idea. But it did take me more than a minute to tie them all together. Thanks to Brittany Napper at Dixie Papiere for the awesome tags! Last night she sat at the table and named all of her classmates and was just so excited to take them each a gift. It was so cute!

I tied a bag of Hershey kisses to a kool aid jammer for "a squeeze and a kiss!!"

My Cupid came yesterday in the form of roses. The boy did real good. :)

So o and I are both happy campers today. Hope u are too!

KD NCTA

Kappa Delta national collegiate training academy. That's where I went this past weekend. The entire council and a CAB advisor from every chapter in the nation had to attend the event-it was mandatory. There were over 1600 kd's there. It was the largest gathering of kd's in the sorority's history. I must say that I did learn a lot about the organization that I love so much so I'm glad I went. I was never able to attend a national convention when I was in the chapter so this was my first glimpse into the world of kappa delta outside of Ruston. There were some great speakers and presentations. It did kind of inspire me to be a better leader in everything I do. So I'd say they accomplished their goal. Our chapter's council is a great group of 10 girls that have their heads on straight and I'm excited to see how they take the information learned here and apply it. Saturday's dinner was cocktail attire and it was fun getting dressed up! Haven't done that in a while!

Me, our council and Corre.

Robert Earl Keen

We had a pretty large group last night for dinner and a concert. About 17 of us dined before the Robert earl keen concert and a great time was had by all! I'd say this was probably my 4th time to see him and it may have been his best show out of all of them! I'm sad I didn't get a big group shot of all of us.

It was a very light crowd, college kids were scarce and it wasn't to loud! We could still talk to each other! My word I'm old!! My feet were sore this morning but that's a small price to pay for a great concert! Can't wait for the next one!

Potty training day 1

Was a HUGE success!! No accidents! We've been toying with training for a while now but I wouldn't commit to it. This morning I woke up and decided today was the day. I sent her to school in panties. And I don't plan to look back! I know we'll have some accidents but so far so good! We even went to church tonight for dinner and she did great there! I was skeptical about actually going somewhere in panties but she showed me!

She was really happy to wear big girl panties to school today! She also showed everyone her panties. Oh well. She'll learn!

Saturday fun day

Sat morning o went to Jenny and john's for a couple of hours to play. From all accounts she had a blast! After that we lunched at our fav spot-Johnny's!! After nap we had dinner out and then went to the basketball game. I was so glad she napped for 2 hours bc the game wasn't over until 9:15 and it was pretty exciting!
